Project Brief
A garden in Letchworth that fits the Arts and Crafts style of the house.
To recapture the magic of the old garden, lost after several trees died.
To develop the shape of the garden, reducing the tunnel effect.
Two seating areas, one near the house, and one in the middle of the garden.
Frame views of the garden from the house, and of the house from the centre of garden.
Interpretation
The design uses a meandering shape down the length of the garden as a good way of connecting each space and giving cohesion.
By retaining as much existing planting as possible the Magic of the garden is recaptured.
Accents and focal points create views and enhance the new shape.
Simple materials and construction details maintain an Arts and Crafts tradition.
A garden that intrigues and surprises.
